Bengi started treatment with local doctors and underwent serial casting starting when he was one week old to treat his unilateral clubfoot. During the course of treatment, Bengi's mom found out about Dr. Ponseti on the Internet and contacted him. On December 20, 2000, the day Bengi turned three months old, he was first casted by Dr. Ponseti. Bengi's family traveled back and forth to Iowa with the help of the Angel Flights organization (volunteer pilots). On January 8, 2001, after three casting sessions with Dr. Ponseti, Bengi had a tenotomy and completed his treatment. |
